Lost Treasures in Oklahoma--- As a kid growing up in Norman Oklahoma---we heard of the lost treasure and the caves at Turner Falls. In High School we made several trips down to Turner Falls and explored several caves in the Falls area. All we found were some crystals(crystal cave) and rattle snakes in wagon wheel cave. This was all done in the early fifties. But it was an adventure.

Yeah, Turner Falls is great. Once, when I was young, I followed Honey Creek to its source. It's a huge spring with water shooting out of the canyon wall, probably three miles (about an hour's walk in that rough country) above Turner Falls.
Any idea where Mill Creek near Davis is? I had thought that Ft. Arbuckle was located near Wild Horse Creek. Could Mill Creek be the creek that runs through Falls Creek campground and over Price Falls? I seem to remember an old mill wheel there.

I really remember Turner Falls in the period before 1950, when I graduated from HS in OKC and went to OU, then to the Navy- returning to Oklahoma in 2007. Used to go to Turner Falls, fish, swim, and climb up to Wagon Wheel cave and down to Crystal Cave.
From the information I see about the place now it's completely controlled and not as nice as it was when we were kids.
Same goes for the Blue River. Wikipedia says it has no dam. It sure used to have one with very clear water upstream, just deep enough to laze along in an inner tube.
Looks like you can't go home again, as they say.

This is all great information. I've lived in Southern Ok most of my life, and still visit frequently, living just across Red River, and I've never heard of these caves, but know all the towns. Keep up the good thread!!!

The land my parents owned was east of Turley on Bird Creek and was said to have been a hideout for the Dalton gang. We always had people coming in to hunt for their buried gold. The last one had a fancy dowsing rod that hit on something big. He brought a bulldozer in and dug into the side of a hill and promptly hit the water main for the town of Sperry. That was the last time Dad let anyone "hunt" for the gold and now highway 75 has covered most of the area.

Shoot, if I'd know that, I would have been looking for lost treasure when I was living in those areas!

My uncle used to hunt for hidden treasure around Velma. There was supposed to be a hide out with a telephone on a tree that dated to early days of statehood. There was an older man who was looking for it as well. My mother knew the guy and said that he went into town and paid all his bills and bought a new pick up. I guess he found it.
