Hello from Oklahoma City! I grew up in Ardmore and spent the first 21 years of my life there, went to school at KU in Lawrence, went back to Ardmore for 5 years and finally had to move to Oklahoma City for my job. But, Ardmore will always be home! Things I have wondered........Whatever happened to........ - Reggie Bates? I remember listening to Ardmore High football games and he and Pat Ownbey did all the games on the radio. - Shotgun Donovan? When I was 15 or 16 years old he was IT on KVSO. Every night he took calls from us kids, played the music we liked and was quite the sensation at the time. I've always wondered what happened to that voice. I remember meeting him once when he was broadcasting live from McDonalds and he was so young! Listening to his radio show on my clock radio is a favorite memory. My mom worked for Cablecom for awhile and worked with Maxine Sanford. Maxine knew him and always spoke highly of him. Which makes me think, whatever happened to Maxine? I have so many other memories and people I wonder about. I'll stop here though because i have to get dinner on the table! Glad to find this forum.

What about Michael Story on KVSO? If I remember correctly he was friends with one of the band members of STYX and brought the band to Ardmore's Civic Auditorium after their first hit, Lady.

Remember when Michael had a record shop on main street? My Brother Jeeff had a part time show on KVSO. He was just a sophmore at AHS at the time. I read Tiger Tales over the air once a week. Jeff is still in radio BTW. GGoing on his31st year now. Hes been a DJ in Houston, and San Diego CA.

Julie, I know it's been awhile since you left your message but...
I worked at KVSO and remember Shotgun Donovan well. We worked together and he LOVED radio. He was only 18 or 19 when he worked there and you remember him as a "teen sensation" and he truly was that. He came back to Ardmore a time or two working for KVSO and then was in Oklahoma City as Mike Donovan at Magic 104 in Oklahoma City. I talked to him once or twice during that time, seems he did the afternoon show, maybe? He was a good jock and a nice guy. I know he moved to California and the very last I heard about Mike was hearing him as the in-theater voice for AMC Theaters all over the country for quite a few years, he may still do that. We've lost touch. Happens in radio all the time.
I talk to Pat Ownbey quite often, he's now a State Representative from Ardmore.
Reggie Bates is now GM of WQYZ in Biloxi, MS
Maybe this town should have an Ardmore Radio Reunion and try to get some of those people back for a weekend.
Maxine Sanford, sadly, passed away in May of 2010. She did so much for the city of Ardmore and is TRULY missed.

I, too, would like to know what Mike Donovan is doing. He went by 'Shotgun' at KVSO and the old KZUE in the 70s. What is he doing?

Micheal Story , His real name was George Kost he was my uncle only 10 years older than me. Every summer I would come down from Steger Illinois. He worked at kxii tv and if so radio what fond memories. He took a job in Shreveport la. Radio George's health got worse he was a diabetic. He was going blind and could barely walk we got a call from a co worker. That drove him to work every day . George didnt answer the door they found him upstairs deceased his diabetes took his life. He loved doing his jobs was a pilot for a oil company and a avid guitar player. His band actually played in Gary Indiana on stage right before the Jackson 5 went on for the first time. He also was friends with some members of the group Styx. He is buried in shrevport La. I miss him dearly.
