Oklahoma began filing birth records in October of 1908. It was not mandatory, however, that these records be filed until 1917. Because birth records were not required in years past as they are today for identification, the filing process in many years prior to 1940 are sketchy. It was the responsibility of the hospital or attendant at birth in each matter of birth to properly obtain the information needed and file the certificate in a timely manner.

Butch, could you please help me with a posting on the "hits' frequency statistics page for July, 2007? I'm a new member and I posted about this in the wrong place a few days ago, after finding your excellent website. On the stats page, you have a listing for "Alec Drennan Newport, Texas 1905." I searched but couldn't find an article, photograph, or even a mention of it in the newsletters. I ask because I only recently learned that my great-grandfather Drennan's name was Alec, and that he died in Newport, Texas in 1905! I know that the family lived in some of the border counties of North Texas and adjoining counties of Oklahoma. I would so appreciate knowing about the reference to Alec Drennan. Thanks-------Sandy

I deleted your first post, since there is no way at present to moved a message from one Topic area to another.
If you go to my home page, and do an EXACT search for alex drennan, you will find him!

Butch, I had searched with the Pico search engine on your home page and had indeed found ALEX Drennan in the newsletter item about him winning second prize in the fiddling contest, but your July 2007 statistics page lists ALEC Drennan, Newport TX, 1905, which matches up exactly with my own family info, and I can't find an article in the newsletter through Pico search engine that matches up with that specific notation. What am I missing? Thanks, Sandy

The Pico search data you see, just means someone, maybe even you, did a search for alex drennan. It does not mean or point toward info you seek. Wish I could have brought you better news on this.
